<u>New Netherland</u> were granted the protections and privileges of self-government. New Amsterdam, so it became the first European style city in the thirteen original colonies that would comprise the United States. Dutch success produced many rivals, the English chief among them.

<u>William Penn</u> (October 14, 1644–July 30, 1718) founded the Province of Pennsylvania. the British North American colony that become the United state's.  of Pennsylvania. The democratic principles that he set , served as an inspiration for the United States Constitution.

<u>Peter Stuyvesant </u>was famous as the last Dutch Director-General of the colony of New Netherland until it was ceded to the British. He was the son of a minister ,he  received a good education studying in Franeker. In April 1644 he held an attack on the the Portuguese island of Saint Martin and was badly hurt.
