The active process of thinking before teaching, during teaching and after teaching in order to make decisions about how to plan, assess, and teach is called reflective practice.

Reflective practice is the active process of engaging in an activity, reflecting on that activity in order to learn from it, and using that knowledge to inform better performance in the future.

It is used in various fields, ranging from education, to social work, to medical practices, etc. to drive improvements in outcomes and meet specified objectives.

When applying it in the teaching field, the teacher carefully plans out the classes, then makes assessment of the outcomes, uses that information to improve the strategy, and this cycle continues, thereby leading to improved outcomes.
