Some cultures are high in uncertainty avoidance, and some are low in it, but regardless of the level of uncertainty avoidance in a society, uncertainty still plays an important role in influencing certain behaviors and social values.
Uncertainty avoidance, is one of the individual differences variables studied in relation to cultural values.
The opposite variable, uncertainty tolerance, describes individuals who embrace the unfamiliar and unknown without anxiety or discomfort.
Individuals who exhibit high levels of uncertainty avoidance tend to view new situations as threatening, whereas people with high levels of uncertainty tolerance are more comfortable with novelty.
