The primary purpose of the speaker in this excerpt is to persuade foreigners in the audience to move to Athens.

This excerpt is taken from Thucydides: Pericles' Funeral Oration. Funeral oration is the formal speech given on someone's funeral. Shortly after the Peloponnesian War had broken out, Pericles delivered his funeral oration to commemorate those troops who had already fallen in battle.

In his speech, Pericles states that he had been emphasizing the greatness of Athens so as to convey that the people of Athens should still support the war, to point out them that what they were fighting for was of the utmost importance.

Suppose y is inversely proportional to x. If y = –8 when x = –2, find y when x = 32
Annette [7]

Answer: 1/2

Explanation:

When y is inversely proportional to x. This implies that:

y = k/x

If y = –8 when x = –2, then the constant of proportionality will be;

y = k/x

-8 = k/-2

k = (-8 × -2)

k = 16

when x = 32, the value of y will be:

y = k/x

y = 16/32

y = 1/2

EastWind [94]

The value of m in the Balmer-Rydberg equation is equal to TWO (m= 2). It is part of the Balmer series.

What is the Balmer series?

The Balmer series is one of a group of series that describe the spectral line emissions of a hydrogen atom.

The Balmer-Rydberg equation refers to a mathematical equation between spectral lines.

The Balmer-Rydberg equation indicates the wavenumber of the spectrum for hydrogen regarding the Rydberg constant.

The Balmer-Rydberg equation considers the wavelength of the photon, the atomic number and integers indicating spectral lines.
