This known to be a party that is said to be the  best known of of the nativist groups that was said to have came to be known as the American Party and its is also known as Know-Nothings.

The purpose of the Know-Nothing movement was to handle issues that is relating to foreign influences and to keep and promote traditional American ways. The American Party is said to have began  in 1849. Its members are known to be people who are said to be  strongly opposed immigrants and also the followers of the Catholic Church.

Therefore, due to the above, The major issue for the know-nothing party was westward expansion.
