Explanation

The general vertex-equation of a parabola has the following form:

f(x)=a\cdot(x-h)^2+k.

Where:

• a is a multiplicative factor,

,

• (h, k) are the coordinates of the vertex of the parabola.

In this exercise we have the following equation:

f(x)=3\cdot x^2+6x-24.

Vertex of the parabola

To find the vertex of the parabola, we will complete squares to take the equation f(x) to the general form as in the equation above.

i. We factorize the equation of f(x) in the following way:

f(x)=3\cdot(x^2+2x)-24.

ii. Now, we rewrite the term inside the parenthesis as:

\begin{gathered} f(x)=3\cdot(x^2+2\cdot1\cdot x)-24 \\ =3\cdot((x^2+2\cdot1\cdot x+1)-1)-24 \\ =3\cdot(x^2+2x+1)-3-24 \\ =3\cdot(x^2+2x+1)-27. \end{gathered}

iii. Now, we see that the term in parenthesis can be rewritten as a square:

f(x)=3\cdot(x+1)^2-27.

iv. Finally, we rewrite the term inside and outside the parenthesis as:

f(x)=3\cdot(x-(-1))^2+(-27).

In the last step, we rewrite the term inside the parenthesis to have the same shape as in the general expression.

Comparing the equation that we have obtained and the general one, we see that the coordinates of the vertex are:

(h,k)=(-1,-27).

Second point

We find a second point by evaluating the function f(x) in x = 1, we get:

f(1)=3\cdot1^2+6\cdot1-24=3+6-24=-15.

The coordinates of the second point are (1, -15).

Graph

We have the following points of the parabola:

\begin{gathered} \text{ Vertex }=(-1,-27), \\ \text{ Second point }=(1,-15). \end{gathered}

Using these points and taking into account that the axis of symmetry is x = -1 (because the x-coordinate of the vertex is -1), we get the following graph:

Answer

Coordinates of the vertex: (-1, -27)

Coordinates of the second point: (1, -15)

garri49 [273]

Answer:

13 seconds.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

h = -4.9(t - 13)(t + 2).

Required

Determine a reasonable solution for t

To do this, we equate h to 0.

h = -4.9(t - 13)(t + 2). becomes

0 = -4.9(t - 13)(t + 2).

Divide through by -4.9

0 = (t - 13)(t + 2).

Reorder the expression

(t - 13)(t + 2) = 0.

Split

t-13 = 0 or t + 2 = 0

This gives:

t = 13 or t = -2

But time can't be negative, So:

t = 13

If $12000 is invested in an account in which the interest earned is continuously compounded at a rate of 2.5%
vladimir1956 [14]

Complete Question

If $12000 is invested in an account in which the interest earned is continuously compounded at a rate of 2.5% for 3 years

Answer:

$ 12,934.61

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for Compound Interest Compounded continuously is given as:

A = Pe^rt

A = Amount after t years

r = Interest rate = 2.5%

t = Time after t years = 3

P = Principal = Initial amount invested = $12,000

First, convert R percent to r a decimal

r = R/100

r = 2.5%/100

r = 0.025 per year,

Then, solve our equation for A

A = Pe^rt

A = 12,000 × e^(0.025 × 3)

A = $ 12,934.61

The total amount from compound interest on an original principal of $12,000.00 at a rate of 2.5% per year compounded continuously over 3 years is $ 12,934.61.

denis-greek [22]

Answer:

1/25 ; 3/20 ; 3/50

Step-by-step explanation:

Total number of stickers :

(10 + 15 + 25) = 50 stickers

Probability = required outcome / Total possible outcomes

a. Selecting blue and blue stickers

P(First blue) = 10/50 = 1/5

P(second blue) = 10/50 = 1/5

1/5 * 1/5 = 1 / 25

b. Selecting one red sticker and then one orange sticker

P(First red) = 15/50 = 3/10

P(second orange) = 25/50 = 1/2

3/10 * 1/2 = 3 /20

Selecting one red sticker and then one blue sticker

P(First red) = 15/50 = 3/10

P(second blue) = 10/50 = 1/5

3/10 * 1/5 = 3 / 50
