Why were Democrats angry after the presidential election of 1876?

The 1876 elections infuriated the Democrats because they thought their candidate had truly won.

Democrats believed that Samuel J. Tilden, their candidate, had won the election, which was made worse by the fact that he had a larger share of the popular vote. Rutherford B. Hayes managed to negotiate despite this and win the Electoral college. The votes were settled by an informal, "back-room" agreement known as the Compromise of 1877.

In exchange for the Republicans agreeing to evacuate federal troops from the South, which put an end to Reconstruction, the Democrats granted to Hayes 20 of the disputed electoral votes, giving him an 185–184 win.

Republican Hayes lost the popular vote to Democratic Tilden in the 1876 election, which the Republicans won with 1 electoral vote. People were nevertheless opposed to Hayes' close victory, and many Democrats expressed concerns, which had an impact on Reconstruction.

PLZ HELP NOW What would Andrew Jackson have to say to the current crop of politicians ( pick the president , presidential candid
MArishka [77]

Answer:

Not going to write it for you but I'll give you some suggestions

Explanation:

President Trump:

I think Jackson would be mostly in support of the President's base as they largely had support from similar groups. That being said, part of me believes he would be disgusted with the Presidents actions especially when he discusses McCain or draft dodging (Jackson was a war hero- a pointless one, but one nonetheless). However, Jackson himself was a bit of a p***k and racist (small pox blankets), and he hated the media (death of his wife) so they'd probably be best friends.

emmainna [20.7K]
Decline of rural living, but sparked tremendous amounts of economic growth eventually. Early urbanization was filthy though, no proper sewage, overcrowded cities. So many people surged into these urban areas at one time, often not finding enough jobs for everyone.
