olga nikolaevna [1]1 year ago

Johnson's dictionary was created at a time when etymology was mostly based on guesswork.

Samuel Johnson's A Dictionary of the English Language, also known as Johnson's Dictionary, was published on April 15, 1755. It is one of the most influential dictionaries in English language history.

However, Johnson's dictionary is most notable for stimulating lexicography, elevating the dictionary's status and interest as a literary and cultural artifact, and spawning new dictionary genres. Johnson was the first English lexicographer to use citations in this manner, which greatly influenced the style of subsequent dictionaries. He had combed through books dating back to the 16th century, frequently quoting from what were thought to be "great works," such as Milton's poemas or Shakespeare's plays.

What is the poem prevision about
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

I immediately start thinking of Anne Morrow Lindberg's classic book Gift from the Sea. Another poem I also think of is "Fear" by Gabriela Mistral. Kilmer's poem, especially 13-16, are ready-made for tombstones. "My heart shall keep the child I knew/When you are really gone from me,/And spend its life remembering you/As shells remember the lost sea." This is a poem from a mother's heart, where grief has pierced it beyond the presenthour. It's the brief moments she clings to, and then must acknowledge the brevity of the precious life that was given to her in the form of the child. Lines 11-12 tug at the visual, "A mist about your beauty clings/Like a thin cloud before a star."
