In my opinion, it is not a good idea to try to build a new colony in Massachusetts as winter was coming because New England colonies experienced extremely cold winters and temperate summers. The area was flat close to the ocean but steep and mountainous farther inland. The land was often rocky, making cultivation difficult. Cold winters prevented the disease from spreading as quickly.
