The issue of human rights should never be reduced to a tool of "double standard", still less should it become a "mask" in disgui

se. It is a puzzling fact that since 1977, the State Department of the United States has issued its country reports on human rights practices to the world every year, criticizing countries for their human rights violations. It is ridiculous to think of such selective deafness, to turn a blind eye to one's own problems, to deliberately portray oneself as a defender of international human rights, and to point fingers at other countries. It is fair to say that the United States, which claims itself as a "human rights defender," has actually become the "biggest destroyer of human rights in the world." The human rights problem is so serious that the United States should also reflect on how it can truly improve its human rights standards.

By conducting an analytical reading of the text provided by the question, we can state that this is an argumentative text against the issue of human rights in the USA.

What is an argumentative text?

It is a textual structure whose central purpose is to convince the reader about a certain topic, in which the author expresses his ideas in favor or against, supported by sources that corroborate his argument.

Therefore, we can see that the author explains his ideas against the way the issue of human rights is treated in the United States in the excerpt "...the United States, which claims to be the defender of human rights, has actually become the greatest destroyer of human rights in the world."
