Despite having certain differences, satire and irony are two notions that are closely connected. Irony is a literary device that is produced by using language that is purposefully untrue to the facts. Satire is when a flaw in society is exposed by comedy, wit, exaggeration, or irony.
The goal of satire is to humiliate, degrade, or discredit its targets by making them appear foolish and evoking laughter. Every time someone says or does anything that differs from what they (or we) anticipate them to say or do, irony happens in both literature and everyday life.
