Syndrome that causes deaf-blindness and is characterized by a number of physical defects, such as an abnormally shaped pupil, and results in difficulties in swallowing and breathing is Usher syndrome.

Usher syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the hearing and the vision of the person. It can also cause  an eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa. It is an autosomal recessive disorder. The mutation occurs in a gene located in the chromosome number 10.

Pupil of the eye is a centrally located dark colored circle that surrounds the iris. It is made up of two muscles. The function of pupil is to receive the image of any object and also regulates the amount of light that reaches the retina.
