The missing value x=3 is obtained by the concept of slope in coordinate geometry.

What is slope?

Positive or negative rates of change are both possible. Since the slope of a line is determined by the ratio of the vertical and horizontal change between any two locations on a plane or line, the slope is determined by the rise to run ratio. Where, Rise is the difference in elevation between two points. The horizontal shift between two places is known as a run.

Formula of slope = \frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1} (equation 1)

According to the question the coordinates are: xi=2, x2=x, y1=6, y2=10

Given, rate of change=4 (here rate of change=slope)

Putting all coordinates in equation 1

Slope= \frac{10-6}{x-2}

4=4/x-2

x-2=1

x=3

Therefore, the missing value x=3

Is it possible to find a value of $x$x so that the value of the surface area (in square inches) is equal to the value of the vo
mr_godi [17]

Answer:

No, it’s not possible according to calculations

Step-by-step explanation:

Mathematically, the area of a rectangular prism is;

2(wl + wh + lh)

Where w is the width, l is the length and h is the height;

Making the substitutions with values in the question

Surface area = 2(6x + 3x + 3(6))

Surface Area = 2(9x + 18) = 18x + 36 square inches

Volume of rectangular prism = l * w * h

Making substitutions;

V = x * 6 * 3 = 18x cubic inches

So therefore to get the value of x, we equate the surface area to the volume;

18x = 18x + 36

We can see that 18x will cancel out and will render our equation invalid

A student comes to lecture at a time that is uniformly distributed between 5:09 and 5:14. Independently of the student, the prof
scZoUnD [109]

Answer:

1/2

Step-by-step explanation:

The lecture has already begun when the student arrives means one of these scenarios happen:

1) the class started at 5:10 and the student arrives at 5:11 or 5:12 or 5:13 or 5:14

2) the class started at 5:11 and the student arrives at 5:12 or 5:13 or 5:14

3) the class started at 5:12 and the student arrives at 5:13 or 5:14

Given student time of arrival is uniformly distributed, then the probability he/she arrives at 5:09 or 5:10 or 5:11 or 5:12 or 5:13 or 5:14 is 1/6.

So, the probability that the student arrives between 5:11 and 5:14 is 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 = 2/3.

The probability that the student arrives between 5:12 and 5:14 is 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 = 1/2.

The probability that the student arrives at 5:13 or 5:14 is 1/6 + 1/6 = 1/3.

Given class starting time is uniformly distributed, then the probability it starts at 5:10 or 5:11 or 5:12 is 1/3.

Given the two events are independent, the probability of the first scenario is: (1/3)*(2/3) = 2/9

For the second scenario: (1/3)*(1/2) = 1/6

For the third scenario: (1/3)*(1/3) = 1/9

Because all of these scenarios are mutually exclusive the total probability of one of them happen is: 2/9 + 1/6 + 1/9 = 1/2
