When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from terrible nightmares, he discovered that he had been changed into an awful vermin and was lying in his bed. As he laid on his armour-like back, he could see his brown tummy, which was slightly rounded and separated into stiff pieces by arches. It was barely covered by the bedding and appeared to be about to slide off at any second. He watched while his numerous, pitifully small legs waved around pathetically in comparison to the bulk of the rest of him.
