Atum was a tone created deity, the first being to rise from the darkness and endless watery ocean that was before creation. A product of the energy and matter contained in this chaos, he created his children — the first divinities, out of loneliness.

How did Atum create the other gods?

Atum was said to be “ he who came into being by himself ” and he also created his first two descendants, air and humidity from his fleshly fluids. Shu and Tefnut also created the coming brace of gods, Geb( earth) and Nut( sky), furnishing the physical frame for the world.

What is the most important achievement of Atum?

Atum was the father of the gods, who created the first divine couple, Shu and Tefnut, from whom other gods are descended. He was also referred to be the father of the Pharaohs. Many Pharaohs used the title “Son of Atum” after the power base moves from Iunu.
