The distribution of fold mountains, as seen in figure 1, are mostly located around areas of tectonic plates surrounding various continents. For example, the Pacific plate, which runs along North America contains a long region of folded mountains along the coast.
The seismic focus is the point in the earth's crust where an earthquake originates from.
