A Syncline is the downward arc (concave downward) which looks like a curve of a fold.

An Anticline is a fold that is convex upward. Ridge and valley province is a physiographic province that is a series of both synclines and anticlines in the northeast-southwest of the mainland

This Syncline, Anticline, Ridge, and Valley province are formed when tectonic plates are moved or collied or compressed by each other on the earth's crust. This results in the formation of different main lands on the earth.

The Valley and Ridge province was the perfect example of a syncline and anticline or plate tectonic collision of two continents in the Paleozoic Age. Near Africa and North America.

The Ridge and valley province is a part of The Appalachian Mountain range in the United states.
