TS Eliot's Rhapsody on a Windy Night was inspired by the way 20th-century city life became dark and sinister. City life became routine, with prostitution and other ugly things at night.

T.S.'s background was also the poverty and illness that comes with industrial life. Eliot's Poem. A line of the poem refers to "washed smallpox tearing her face." In 1900, over 20,000 cases of smallpox were reported for her in the United States. (Eliot she wrote this poem in 1911.)

The themes reflected in Rhapsody on a Windy Night are themes of repetition, loss, and the sense of isolation that society brings to people.
