The standard form of a hyperbola with center (h,k) is

We know the vertices are at (5,0) and (-5,0)

The vertices are at (h+a,k) and ( h-a,k)

The center must be at (0,0) and the a value is 5

The coordinates of the foci are at ( h+c,k) and ( h-c, k) and we know one of the foci is at (6,0)

c is equal to 6

We know that c^2 = a^2+b^2

6^2 = 5^2 + b^2

36 = 25+b^2

11 = b^2

We can write the equation

Ludmilka [50]
In this problem you will need to use the Pythagorean theorem (c^2=a^2+b^2).
The a and b represents the two edges, while c is the diagonal side and it is called the hypotenuse. Since you already know what the hypotenuse is and what one of the sides already are you just have to use the problem: c^2-a^2=b^2. Then if you plug the data you already have into the problem you will get 10^2-6^2=b^2. That then equals 100-36=b^2. Then you subtract and get b^2=64. Then you square root both sides and you get the answer b=8.

Linear equations 3(x+1)=3x+3
vaieri [72.5K]
4x + 2 - 3x + 5 - 2(x + 5) = (2x - 5) + (3x + 4)
4x + 2 - 3x + 5  - 2x - 10 =   2x - 5 +   3x + 4
4x - 3x - 2x + 5 + 2 - 10  =  2x + 3x - 5 + 4
        - x             - 3           =       5x       - 1
-x - 3 = 5x - 1 is the line above recopied
+x     = +x
    -3   = 6x - 1
    +1   =    + 1
    - 2   = 6x

Write two numbers that when rounded to the thousands place have an estimated sum of 10,000
m_a_m_a [10]
Rounded numbers are easier to work with in your head. They are only approximate. An exact answer can not be obtained with these numbers. Sometimes an exact answer is not required.To round numbers to the nearest ten thousand, make the numbers whose last four digits are 0001 through 4999 into the next lower number that ends in 0000. For example 54,424 rounded to the nearest ten thousand would be 50,000. Numbers that have the last four digits of 5000 or more should be rounded up to the next even ten thousand. The number 78,988 rounded to the nearest ten thousand would be 80,000.this might help you understand
