you measure the period of a mass oscillating on a vertical spring ten times as follows: period (s): 1.38, 1.18, 1.47, 1.35, 1.52

, 1.23, 1.62, 1.17, 1.03, 1.11 what are the mean and (sample) standard deviation?

For the given sample, mean = 1.306 and standard deviation = 0.1826.

As given ,

Given sample

x_{i}: 1.38, 1.18, 1.47, 1.35, 1.52, 1.23, 1.62, 1.17, 1.03, 1.11

Total samples N=10

Mean

 \bar{x} =\frac{\sum x_{i} }{N}

    = ( 1.38+1.18+ 1.47+ 1.35+ 1.52+ 1.23+ 1.62+ 1.17+ 1.03+1.11)/ 10

    = (13.06 ) /10

    = 1.306

(\sum x_{i} - \bar{x} ) ^{2} }

= (1.38 -1.306)² + (1.18 -1.306)² +(1.47 -1.306)² +(1.35 -1.306)² +(1.52 -1.306)² +(1.23 -1.306)² +(1.62 -1.306)² +(1.17-1.306)² +(1.03 -1.306)² +(1.11 -1.306)²

=0.33344

Standard deviation =\sqrt{ \frac{(\sum x_{i} - \bar{x} ) ^{2} }{N} }

                              = \sqrt{\frac{0.33344}{10} }

                              = 0.1826

Therefore, for the given sample, mean = 1.306 and standard deviation = 0.1826.

If x varies directly as y, and x=4 when y=15, find x when y=36.<br>
vesna_86 [32]

Answer:

x = 9.6

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that x varies directly as y then the equation relating them is

x = ky ← k is the constant of variation

To find k use the condition x = 4 when y = 15

k = \frac{x}{y} = \frac{4}{15}

x = \frac{4}{15} y ← equation of variation

When y = 36, then

x = \frac{4}{15} × 36 = \frac{144}{15} = 9.6

(a) Volume of any Pyramid =   \frac{1}{3} * (Base-Area)*height = \frac{1}{3} *220.22*9 = 660.66 cubic units

(b) Sarah doesn't have to go through all the hard work as the smaller pyramid has a ratio of 2:3 to the bigger pyramid, so we get the equation, to help us solve it.

660.66 = \frac{2}{3} *(Area-of-larger-pyramid)

Hope that helps!

In the system shown below, what are the coordinates of the solution that lies in quadrant I?
Arisa [49]

Answer:

(4,3)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

x^2+y^2=25

x-y^2=-5

In order to solve the equations, from equation 2 we get

-y^2= -5-x

y^2=5+x

Putting the value of y^2 in equation 1

x^2+5+x=25

x^2+5-25+x=0

x^2+x-20=0

x^2+5x-4x-20= 0

x(x+5)-4(x+5)=0

(x+5)(x-4)=0

So

x+5=0  x-4=0

x=-5   x=4

Now for x=-5

x^2+y^2=25

(-5)^2+y^2=25

25+y^2=25

y^2=25-25

y^2=0

so Y=0

And for x = 4

x^2+y^2=25

(4)^2+y^2=25

16+y^2=25

y^2=25-16

y^2=9

y= ±3

So the solution to the system of equations is

(-5,0) , (4,3), (4,-3)

The only solution that belongs to first quadrant is (4,3)

Answer:

The third one

Step-by-step explanation:

It can't be the first one since the peak is 4 since it is the highest

It can't be the second one because the data is all different

It could be the third one since their are gaps

And It can't be the fourth one because the range is 7

So it must be the third one
