Step 1

Given;

f(x)=x^2+2x-8

Required; To find the vertex and axes intercepts. write it in standard form and graph it.

Step 2

Find the vertex

\begin{gathered} (h,k)=(\frac{-b}{2a},f(h)) \\ a=1,b=2,c=-8 \end{gathered}\begin{gathered} h=-\frac{2}{2(1)}=-1 \\ f(h)=(-1)^2+2(-1)-8=1-2-8=-9 \\ Vertex(h,k)=(-1,-9) \end{gathered}

Step 3

Find the axes intercepts

\begin{gathered} x^2+2x-8=0 \\ factors\text{ are 4x and -2x} \\ x^2+4x-2x-8=0 \\ x(x+4)-2(x+4)=0 \\ (x-2)(x+4)=0 \\ x=2\text{ or -4} \\ x-intercepts=(-4,0),(2,0) \end{gathered}\begin{gathered} To\text{ find the y-intercept set x=0} \\ f(x)=0^2+2(0)-8 \\ f(x)=-8 \\ y-intercept=(0,-8) \end{gathered}

Step 4

Graph the function.

Step 5

The standard form will be;

\begin{gathered} f(x)=ax^2+bx+c-\text{ Standard form of any quadratic eqaution} \\ Thus\text{ the required standard form will be;} \\ f(x)=x^2+2x-8 \end{gathered}

A fraction reduces to 36. If its denominator is 6x5, what is its numerator?
olchik [2.2K]
If you would like to find the numerator of a fraction, you can do this using the following steps:

denominator ... 6 * 5 = 30
numerator ... x = ?

36 = numerator / denominator
36 = x / 30
x = 36 * 30
x = 1080

The correct result would be 1080.

How do I make an equation using 0.5 for slope and 3 for y intercept
Ann [662]

The slope-intercept form of a line is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. Since you are given the slope (0.5) and the y-intercept (3), all you have to do is substitute these given values into the equation.  Substituting them in you get: y = 0.5x + 3, which is your answer.

Solve the following system of equations.
Lerok [7]

Answer:

x=5 and y=-2

Step-by-step explanation:

3x+5y=5

-(7x+5y=25)

-4x=-20

x=5

plug 5 into one of the equations. 3(5)+5y=5

y= -2
