The fourth Thursday in November is designated as the US national holiday of Thanksgiving.It is a festival of the harvest. Since 1789, it has been acknowledged intermittently. During Abraham Lincoln's presidency in 1863, it was made a federal holiday.

Following their first harvest in the New World, the Mayflower ship's pilgrims had their first thanksgiving celebration, which lasted three days and was attended by 90 native Americans and 53 pilgrims.

George Washington made the first official declaration of Thanksgiving on October 3, 1789. It was the first time a holiday that is now widely observed in American homes was celebrated on a national scale.

Joseph Addison says in his essay "Argument" that it is best to remain polite and calm during an argument.
exis [7]
B and A look like good answers, but the meaning of candor is "unbiased, impartial"; and although that seems like a good answer it is not because the question does <em>not</em> ask you about a quote that talks of <em>entering</em> an argument, simply <em>being</em> in it. So, I would definitely say that the answer is A. :)

A writer might choose to reflect on a person or event in a poem rather than in an essay or report because _____.
Lena [83]

Answer: Choice C)

He wishes for the reader to have an emotional response to the people or events.

===================================================

Explanation:

  • Choice A is false because the events or people are real.
  • Choice B is true (the people and events are real), but it's not the reason why the writer would go for a poem. The writer could go for an essay if all they wanted to do was talk about the person or event.
  • Choice C is true and it's the answer. Poems provide an emotional response of some kind which allows people to connect better. This in turn allows people to remember the poem better, or remember the person/events better.
  • Choice D is false because choice A is false.
