Orwell demonstrates that Clover's hopes—that things would eventually get better—were comparable to those of Soviet peasants. He clearly expresses how Clover comes to the conclusion that her assumption that the strong will defend the weak was false. Orwell demonstrates that Clover feels intense anguish about the violence, just like the citizens of the Soviet Union.

She thought the chosen leader will do some good but the reality hit everyone differently as Napoleon brought havoc.
