There are two kinds of defamation; libel and slander.

Libel is the act to publishing a defamatory statement in some permanent form. Libel includes: written statement, graphical or a recorded statement. Whereas, slander is the act of making false and defamatory statement orally, or in some transitory form.

It is defined as the speaking of base and defamatory words which tend to prejudice another in his reputation, office, trade, business or means of livelihood.

The elements of oral defamation are: (1) there must be an imputation of a crime, or of a vice or defect, real or imaginary, or any act, omission.

<h3> What is simple slander?</h3>

Words uttered in the heat of anger or in a quarrel, with some provocation on the part of the victim, is simple slander.
