The thermoreceptors in Ore’s skin detect low blood temperatures in the skin blood vessels due to the loss of heat from the skin to the cold environment. The receptors send signals to the brain, and the brain sends motor signals to the muscles (including those of the fist) to   react to the stimuli. This is why Ore clenches his fists to reduce heat loss.

However, as his clenched fist gets tighter the mechanoreceptors in the skin become depolarised when the signal (the pressure) surpasses the required threshold.  This sends a signal to the brain and the brain responds by sending a motor signal to the fist muscle so Ore relaxes the fist a bit and this softens the clenching.
