They were mainly Protestant seeking social revindications, incorporating notions of Christianity, with activism as a means to tackle people under vulnerable situations.

<em>They resorted to campaigns for the poor, elderly, and other minority or at-risk groups. They aimed for improving living conditions as well as preaching a heavenly kingdom on Earth, as a means to enjoy better economical, working and social conditions.</em>

I dont know if this is what you are looking for but when America fought the Spanish Armada, the Spaniards fleet was significantly weakened due to previous conflicts, so our iron clad  ships were able to defeat them. This victory led to America joining the global scale of world powers and not just a baby country
