It is believed that the history of the jack o lantern initially started in Ireland around the 19th century. The first Jack O Lantern was said not to be a pumpkin because they didn't have any pumpkins in Ireland. So they used turnips or even potatoes. The people would place the lanterns on their doorways, after they would carve the vegetables. People carved scary faces on the vegetables to scare evil spirits. But first they would cut the top off to form a lid, and took out whatever was inside. This tradition was used on Halloween and continued as Irish immigrants moved to America, bringing along their festivity. And this tradition was passed down to all parts of the world and is used still to this day. Later in time though, we started using pumpkins, but there are probably still people out there in different parts of the world that use turnips or potatoes. (Sorry if this isn't the full two hundred words as you asked, but I hope this helps you with your assignment. I kind of did a little history myself so you may be familiar with a lot of this information. I would appreciate it if you would give me some feedback telling me how I did so I can better my future answers on brainly. Have a wonderful day/evening :)

Stingy Jack was a miserable, old drunk who took pleasure in playing tricks on just about everyone: family, friends, his mother and even the Devil himself. One day, he tricked the Devil into climbing up an apple tree. After the Devil climbed up the tree, Stingy Jack hurriedly placed crosses around the trunk of the tree. Unable to touch a cross, the Devil was stuck in the tree. Stingy Jack made the Devil promise him not to take his soul when he died. Once the devil promised not to take his soul, Stingy Jack removed the crosses, and the Devil climbed down out of the apple tree.

Many years later, Jack died, he went to the pearly gates of Heaven and was told by Saint Peter that he was mean and cruel, and had led a miserable, worthless life on earth. Stingy Jack was not allowed to enter heaven. He then went down to Hell and the Devil. The Devil kept his promise and would not allow him to enter Hell. Now Jack was scared . He had nowhere to go, but to wander about forever in the dark Netherworld between heaven and hell. He asked the Devil how he could leave, as there was no light. The Devil tossed him an ember from the flames of Hell, to help Stingy Jack light his way. Jack had a Turnip with him. It was one of his favorite foods, and he always carried one with him. Jack hollowed out the Turnip, and placed the ember the Devil had given him, inside the turnip. From that day onward, Stingy Jack roamed the earth without a resting place, lighting his way as he went with his "Jack O'Lantern".

Gandhi used this type of warfare to defeat the British?
Gelneren [198K]

In 1914, Gandhi returned to India and lived a life of abstinence and spirituality on the periphery of Indian politics. He supported Britain in the First World War but in 1919 launched a new satyagraha in protest of Britain’s mandatory military draft of Indians. Hundreds of thousands answered his call to protest, and by 1920 he was leader of the Indian movement for independence. Always nonviolent, he asserted the unity of all people under one God and preached Christian and Muslim ethics along with his Hindu teachings. The British authorities jailed him several times, but his following was so great that he was always released.
