A metaphor is a type of comparison, where two or more things are compared without using words such as <em>like </em>or <em>as. </em>Here, the children are the greatest of our treasures - they are compared to a treasure, something which is the most important thing of all.
In the prologue it explains to you that the two families hate each other, Romeo (who is a montague) and Juliet(a capulet) fall into a forbidden love, and tells you they will die.
In November 1945 Anne and Margot both died in the concentration camps so this passage means
