The answer is:

D - Neither A nor B

-Neither of the ordered pairs shows a straight linear line, and thus, they're not a function.

Edit 3/4/19: D is <em>not</em> the correct answer! I took the test, and it was the only question I had gotten wrong. Neither this answer or the answer above is correct.

Answer:

The correct option is 4. Neither A nor B represents a function.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given sets of ordered pairs are

A=\{(1,-5), (8,-5), (8,7), (2,9)\}

B=\{(7,-4), (7,-2), (6,-3), (-9,5)\}

A set of ordered pairs represents a function if there exist unique outputs for all inputs. It means for each values of x there exist, a unique value of y.

In set A the value of y-coordinates are -5 and 7 at x=8.

At x=8, there exist more than one value of y, so the set A is not a function.

In set B the value of y-coordinates are -4 and -2 at x=7.

At x=7, there exist more than one value of y, so the set B is not a function.

Therefore neither A nor B represents a function and option 4 is correct.

The pair of points is on the graph of an inverse variation. find the missing value. (5,4) and (x,7)
d1i1m1o1n [39]
One form of the relation of inverse variation is y = k/x.

first step:  Find the value of k:    Taking the values x=5 and y = 4, 4=k/5, or k=20.  Then,   y = 20/x.

Next:  Let y = 7 and find the corresp. value of x:  7=20/x, or 7x=20, or

x = 20/7    (answer)

In order for two lines to be perpendicular, their slopes must multiply together to equal to negative one
So we do negative one divided by 2/5 to get the slope of the red line
Which is -5/2
To check, we do 2/5 multiplied by -5/2 which equals to -1 so our answer is correct
