The United States launched an embargo on nationalizing the ownership of US companies in Cuba during the Revolution, and stated that they would continue for as long as the Cuban government refuses to pursue democratization and does not respect human rights in Cuba, meanwhile various organizations, including the UN General Assembly, almost unanimously called for an end to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.
