Middle childhood typically starts from 6-8 years  and  brings about different changes in a child’s life. Children start to become independent and they start to understand what school is which helps them  at this age to improve contact with the outer world than their family. Having independence from family becomes more important now and they start to develop Friendships which to them means a form of acceptance and a basis for interaction to develop confidence in all areas of life and these can be carried out in  school work and participatory games.

They generally view friendship in terms of  teamwork especially and not the purpose of what can be gained from the friendship (ie give and take).
