Zora Neale Hurston has a very unique voice and way of writing the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. She uses phoenetic sounds that relate to how people might have sounded in that day and age. The reader is able to get a good idea of how the people talk in this story, since she says things such as "dis" instead of "this, "dat" instead of "that", and "lak" instead of "like". The reader is able to understand how Hurston is trying to portray her characters to sound.
