A county real estate appraiser wants to develop a statistical model to predict the appraised value of houses in a section of the

county called East Meadow. One of the many variables thought to be an important predictor of appraised value is the number of rooms in the house. Consequently, the appraiser decided to fit the simple linear regression model. E(y)equalsbeta 0plusbeta 1x, where y equals the appraised value of the house (in thousands of dollars) and x equals the number of rooms. What set of hypotheses would you test to determine whether the appraised value is positively linearly related to number of rooms?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The slope represents how much y is predicted to change on average for each 1 unit in x.

y = appraised value of a house in East Meadow County

x = # of rooms

1 unit of x = 1 additional room

1 unit of y = $1,000

slope = 19.79

Answer: Each additional room in a house in East Meadow County is predicted to increase the appraised value by 19.79 x $1,000 = $19,790, on average.

Note: Since we only sampled homes in East Meadow County, our regression equation is only good to predict appraised values in that county. So, our interpretation must include that fact.

Winning the jackpot in a particular lottery requires that you select the correct four numbers between 1 and 42 and, in a separa
NARA [144]

Answer:

\dfrac{1}{3,357,900}

Step-by-step explanation:

There are

C^{42}_4=\dfrac{42!}{4!(42-4)!}=\dfrac{42!}{4!\cdot 38!}=\dfrac{38!\cdot 39\cdot 40\cdot 41\cdot 42}{2\cdot 3\cdot 4\cdot 38!}=39\cdot 10\cdot 41\cdot 7=111,930

different ways to select the  four numbers between 1 and 42. Only one of this ways is correct (successful to win).

There are 30 different ways select the single number between 1 and 30. Only one of them is correct.

The  probability of winning the jackpot is

\dfrac{1}{111,930}\cdot \dfrac{1}{30}=\dfrac{1}{3,357,900}

Veronica has been saving dimes and quarters she has 110 coins in all and the total value is 18.50 how many dimes and quarters do
Lady_Fox [76]

This problem can be solved by the chicken rabbits method or you can just do simple algebra.

I.) Chicken and rabbits method

First assume all 110 coins are dimes and none are quarters.

We will have a total value of 11 dollars

Now for each dime we switch out for a quarter, we adds 15 cents to the total value.

18.50-11=7.50 dollars

There are 750/15=50 group of 15 cents in the 7 dollars and 50 cents.

This also meant that we need to switch out 50 dimes for 50 quarters.

So we have 50 quarters.

That first method is very good and very quick once you get the hang of it, now I'm going to show you the algebraic way to solve this.

Let's say there are x dimes and y quarters.

Set up equation

x+y=110

10x+25y=1850

Now solve multiply first equation by 10

10x+10y=1100

subtract

15y=750

y=50

Now we set the numbers of quarters to y so the answer is 50 quarters.

I personally recommend using algebra whenever you can because the practice is very important and you will eventually get really fast at setting up and solving equations. The first method is faster in this case but the second is more generalize, hope it helps.
