Relating to the rights of the accused, the courts are generally moving away from individual protections and toward "enhanced" government powers.<span> The sixth amendment grants special rights to the accused like speedy trial, right to an attorney etc.</span>
<span>This is of course somewhat of a subjective question, but in general most would agree that no, this was not a good strategy, since it left no room to form treaties. </span>
