Answer:

church leaders felt that the new views challenged religious teachings.

Explanation:

Until the creation and development of science, everybody looked up to the Church and trusted in all the doctrines and values of the Church. Since the creation and development of science, tensions emerged between science and the Church. Church leaders worried that if people started to engage in scientific theories, they would begin to question the Church, making them doubt the core aspects of the religion. Church leaders were worried that new theories would undermine the strong influence of the Church.

Why did Mecca's leaders try to prevent the spread of Muhammad's message
valentina_108 [34]

Answer:

Mecca leaders were worried about losing their political and economic power. The expansion of Islam, the new religion preached by Muhammad, contradicted traditional beliefs and practices of the Arab tribes. Its condemnation of idolatry and its monotheistic character was particularly troubling for them. The Quraysh tribe heads  in Mecca controlled the Kaaba - a key religious place still important in Islam -, and their political and religious power rested upon managing access to polytheistic shrines. So, Muhammad´s doctrine of one God - Allah - questioned their legitimacy and sociopolitical position.
