According to the study conducted by Patti Adler and Peter Adler, professors of sociology from the Universities of Colorado and Denver respectively. They conducted 150 interviews with the research participants in order to determine the causes of the self injury practices. They found out that, the case was not related to suicidal tendencies, everything was merely about a trend or coping mechanism. It was a practice that started in 1990s and extend among adolescents for some time as an addictive pattern.
