The League of Nations was an organization created in 1919 after the Paris Peace Conference. The main objective of this organization was to bring together the governments of the world and provide a forum to resolve disputes in order to ensure world peace. This is considered to be a predecessor of the United Nations. However, the League of Nations was not as successful as it had intended to be, and it eventually proved unable to stop World War II.
The Supreme Court interpreted the fourteenth amendment to mean that states must pay for counsel if the defendant cannot afford it. In Miranda v. Arizona the Supreme Court ruled that accused individuals have a right to be informed of their rights.
