At the end of the Second World War, Berlin was divided into four sectors of occupation: Soviet, French, English and American.

Subsequently, in 1949 the eastern area that was held by the Soviets was under the jurisdiction of the so-called German Democratic Republic (RDA) and the other three formed a single area governed by the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).

In the following years, the western zone began to prosper while the Soviet side suffered economic problems. This, caused millions of Berliners who lived under the communist regime to migrate to West Berlin.

It is for this reason that on the night of August 12, 1961 the authorities of the GDR decided to build a provisional wall that divided the city in two.

The Berlin Wall was constructed to nip in the bud any attempts by refugees to leave East Berlin. Multitudes of East Germans envisaged fleeing from East Germany to the Democratic West Germany through Berlin. To avert this manifestly undesirable practice, the Communist East German government erected the Berlin wall.

CAN SOMEONE PUT THESE INTO A SUMMARY FOR EACH ONE PLZ JUST ONE SENTENCE?
Zigmanuir [339]

A federal government is a system of dividing up power between a central national government and local state governments that are connected to one another by the national government. Some areas of public life are under the control of the national government, and some areas are under control of the local governments.Federal governments help address the wide variety of needs of a geographically large country. It is no wonder, then, that federal governments exist in large countries, like the United States, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and others.

The contrasts between two-party and multiparty systems are often exaggerated. Within each major party in the United States, the Republicans and the Democrats, many factions are struggling for power.

The system of collecting money by force ensures that just a few people make decisions on how large amounts of the people’s money are spent. This makes it worthwhile for special interests to seek favors from politicians, and is the essence of political corruption.

Governments are investing more than ever before on educating their citizens, eager for them to compete in the global workforce. A growing global middle class is spending more of its own money on educating their families. Employers are looking for a new sort of colleague - someone with the skills to flourish in the 21st century. Combined with technologies that continue to develop at breakneck speed, the result is a world that has the want, and the means, to learn at scale.

Explain the significance of 18th century medicine
Marianna [84]

Unlike today, 18th-century medical sciences were not as advanced in scientific knowledge because the body and its functions were still a mystery. In Europe, the doctors still adhered to the dogmas of vitalists, iatrochemists, and iatrophysicists. Each follower of these "brands" of medical practice argued over which of their single causes explained all human health.

This was especially true in the great University centers in Europe. Each had their own simplistic versions of the ills of the human body. They thought that the ills of the human body were due to maladjustment of the bodies system.

Doctors based their diagnosis of illness on the ancient beliefs of "humors", bodily "tension", or other cruder doctrinaire dogmas. The practice of "bleeding" with leeches to cure illness was common during the 18th century. In fact, the practice of medicine caused more harm than good. Doctors did not sterilize their hands or instruments.

The medicines prescribed for ailments were just as bad. In Europe, anything and everything were used in the mixing and making of drugs. In America, the more, common sense approach to medicine prevailed. In fact, lay healers were better doctors than learned physicians were.

During the 18th century America, the most commonly used medicines were botanical. In fact, the most widely read material was the "herbals" catalogs, which explained where and how healing herbs grew. In addition, these materials explained their uses.

Mark Catesby, persuaded by two eminent English physicians to undertake his travels, in 1710-1719, found many therapeutic plants, including the May apple, snakeroot, ginseng, and witch-hazel, and wrote about them in his Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahamas Islands.

There were improvements in the 18th century. For instance, public health and hygiene received more attention. Population statistics were beginning to be kept and suggestions arose concerning health legislation.

The use of vaccination began in the 18th century. Smallpox was the main target for this type of therapy. Smallpox was a disfiguring and often, fatal disease. In fact, at times it was an epidemic, which ravaged the cities and countries in Europe.
