Natural Selection

The theory of natural selection illustrates that dominant traits are preserved over time through phenotypes (the result of environmentally influenced by genotype).
Completion is the force of natural selection where the strongest organisms, competing for the same food or niche, win, resulting in the weaker organism becoming extinct or changing food dependence or niche to survive.

Virus are living because they:

Reproduce, have Genetic Material (Nucleic Acids) and Adapt

.

Explanation:

Virus have genes or genetic material which are layered in a capsid or protein coat and sometimes a lipid bilayer.

It is not made up of cells yet can be considered a living organism because of the genetic material RNA or DNA in it.

The infect the host and take over host replication machinery and replicates itself. Although it is not able to replicate outside the living body.

They adapt to the host's body environment as many adaptation are present in it as capsid layer which protects its genetic material from getting degrade till the time it reaches nucleus of the cell.

There are 7 point criteria for an organism to be living, virus fulfils some of it except having made up of cells and having cellular organization.

What happens when removing and organism from a food chain?
kondor19780726 [428]

Answer:

It depends on whether or not the organism is a producer or a predator. If the organism removed is a producer, every other organism that relies on said producer for food will not be able to survive. If the organism removed is a predator, the organisms that said predator eats will flourish, diminishing the natural resources in the ecosystem and inevitably starving the population of the ecosystem.

The circulating red blood cell is metabolically active but is only able to live for 120 days. During this short time, some signi
OLEGan [10]

Answer: They lack nucleus and other organelles important for the synthesis of the enzyme.

Explanation:

The main function of the red blood cells is to supply oxygen throughout the body. The oxygen binds to the hemoglobin and travels throughout the body to ensure the supply of oxygen to various organs and more precisely the cells of the body.

The enzymes that is being synthesized inside the body is produced by the help of the gene and nucleus along with the other organelles involved in it.The mature red blood cells lack nucleus in order to increase the surface area for carrying the oxygen.

As there is no nucleus, mitochondria and golgi apparatus in the cell, there is no enzyme synthesis and broke down in the cell.

A group of students is trying to grow a kelp plant in a tank without any others animals. They use a temperature regulation syste
mina [271]

I have read the question several times and I believe "A.The kelp draws nutrients from the water rather than the soil, which it does not have available." would be your answer.

Although it is true that kelp is temperature sensitive, the question states that "They use a temperature regulation system to keep the water temperature at about 12°C." So even with the added addition of sunlight, I think the temperature still stays generally the same. And as long as the temperature is between 5-20 C degrees, the kelp should be okay.

However, kelp does not work the same as most land plants, kelp does not have a root system. It instead has a "holdfast" anchoring system that does not transport nutrients. So how does kelp get nutrients? From the water directly. Since the question says nothing about nutrients in the water, and directly talks about nutrients in the soil, we can assume that their is no nutrients in the water (only in the soil). Making A our answer.

This is a copy/pasted answer from a question I also answered.
