In Illinois, French cheese sold at a grocery store is subject to state taxes as well as a nationally-imposed import tax. This is an example of concurrent powers.
In legal terms, states have some powers besides the presence of federal powers. In the case of concurred powers, these are powers that the US Constitution gives to the federation but can also be given to the states. In simpler term, a concurred power can be shared by both, the federal government and the states. For instance, the French cheese that is taxed by both, the federal government and the state, in order to collect money for being an import.
