The difference between wergild and the ordeal is that, wergild refers to the amount or fine that the wrongdoer pays for the family of the victim or victims; whereas ordeal is a physical challenge and in this challenge, it is judged whether if it heals, then god is on his side, but if not, then the person is considered guilty.

What was the main reason that several new england cities became major shipbuilding centers?.
pshichka [43]

The main reason that several new England cities became major shipbuilding centers was these cities needed ships for deep sea fishing. The land near the cities was at first difficult to farm.

Shipbuilding is the construction of ships and other floating ships. It usually takes place in a specialized facility called a shipyard. A shipbuilder or shipbuilder is a specialized profession that has its roots in earlier history.

Shipbuilding and ship repair, both commercial and military, is called "naval engineering". Boat building is a similar activity known as boat building. The earliest known descriptions (including paintings and models) of shallow-water sailing ships date from the 6th to 5th millennium BC of the Ubaid period of Mesopotamia. They were made from baled reeds covered with bitumen and had bipedal masts. They sailed in the shallow coastal waters of the Persian Gulf. Evidence from Ancient Egypt shows that the early Egyptians knew how to attach wooden planks to the hulls of ships as early as 3100 BC. Ancient Egyptian pottery circa 4000 BC. AD shows drawings of the first riverboats or other maritime vehicles.

Why did the Europeans use one crop economies in their colonies?
WINSTONCH [101]

Answer:

Europeans generally used a one-crop economy in their colonies, for they are trying to generate wealth, instead of looking after the economies of the colonies. Most of the time, the crop is a "cash crop" or a crop that is worth a lot when needed, but usually cannot be eaten or used as food. They can include Tobacco, Cotton, etc.

However, the usage of only producing one product would lead to a large dependancy on it, and the economy of the certain country would depend on the demand as well as the price of the product. The higher the demand, the better the price, which leads to a better GDP. Of course, this may change on the whim, which makes an extremely unstable economy.

In today's world, only one one-resource economy works, and that is oil. Oil is used for a lot of things, including creating gasoline, diesel, etc, and is used in many modern appliances. However, with the world soon seeing the disastrous affects of the usage of fossil fuels, they are slowly transitioning to renewable resources, which may soon put the "oil kings" out of business, and propelling them back into a third-world status.

In the end, the Europeans used one crop economies in their colonies to generate quick cash, and to keep the economies of the colonies small, which may lead to them having trouble with uprisings.
