Answer:

D The islamic golden age ended

Explanation:

The Battle of Baghdad of 1258 was a weapons event that ended with the victory of the Mongol leader Hulagu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan and brother of the Mongol supreme leader Mongke Khan, on the Abbasid Caliphate and which culminated in the taking, looting and burning of Baghdad

Normally the Mongols only destroyed a city if it offered them resistance. Cities that capitulated immediately, could expect clemency. The destruction of Baghdad was to some extent a deliberate strategy to intimidate other cities and kingdoms. This worked with Damascus, but not with Mamluk Egypt, which resisted and defeated the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260. Baghdad would remain a depopulated and ruined city for centuries; only after a long time would he recover part of his former splendor.
