The Gilded Age was a time in American history that received its name due to the huge fortunes it created for different citizens. During this era, robber barons became an integral part of society. Robber barons were individuals who became rich/dominant in a particular industry through business deals. Some examples of robber barons include John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and JP Morgan.

John D. Rockefeller represented the Gilded Age well during this time. His monopoly on the oil industry allowed him to be considered one of the richest people in American history. At one point, Rockefeller controlled roughly 90% of the oil consumed in the United States. This allowed Rockefeller to live a lavish lifestyle.

Montesquieu came up with separation of power - how did james madison use his theory to create our government structure
lys-0071 [83]
Madison understood that power can corrupt as seen with the kings of their time. So Madison set up the form of government that relies on separate branches of government that operates under checks and balances. This means that no one branch can get too powerful and overrule the other branches. We see this in modern government in the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Madison improved upon the idea that power cannot be held by one man or a few people.

Why does walter cunningham drench his lunch in molasses/syrup?
frosja888 [35]

You could argue that this is an indication of Walter Cunningham's severe poverty. He is very poor, and poor people did not have access to sweets or treats such as molasses syrup, so when he was offered it he deemed it appropriate to drench his entire lunch in it.

Unless I'm mistaken it was to establish a Japan empire and in the few years that followed Japan started becoming more and more friendly with the Reich and because they were both fascist counties and had the same goals of a larger empire, and more resources. During the war, some actions of the South Carolina provincial congress included?
ElenaW [278]

Answer:

The process of launching a new and independent government in the Province of South Carolina formally began on July 6, 1774, while the Province was patiently waiting for its new Royal Governor - Lord William Campbell, who did not arrive until June 18, 1775. William Bull, Jr. had been acting on his behalf since 1773, when the previous Royal Governor - Lord Charles Grenville Montague was recalled in disgrace by the British government.

With all of the intolerable "Acts" of the 1760s and the Wilkes Fund Controversy of the early 1770s, the leading men within South Carolina had finally had enough. At a General Meeting in Charlestown on July 6, 1774 they elected five delegates to the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia, and they created the Committee of 99, which soon became the "de facto" government of South Carolina.

In November of 1774, the General Meeting called for the election of a Provincial Congress, which was to convene in Charlestown in January of 1775. Elections were held in each parish and throughout the backcountry on December 19, 1774 to choose delegates for the January congress.

The elected First Provincial Congress met on January 11, 1775 in Charlestown and immediately began organizing how it wanted to commence governing South Carolina. Those in attendance appointed local committees to enforce regulations and appointed an Executive Council of Safety seated in Charlestown to direct the work of the local committees.
