A direct object is a noun or a pronoun that receives the action in the sentence; they can be identified by answering the “what?” or the “who?” questions.

An indirect object, on the other hand, is a noun or a pronoun that receives the direct object, or that is affected by it, thus an indirect object cannot exist without a direct object. Plus, we can identify it by answering “for What/Whom?” questions.

Min's hat is the recipient of the verb "blew". What did the wind blow? Answer: Min's hat.

2. Did you give (Annabelle) the homework?: Indirect object

3. Liza gave her homework to (the teacher): Indirect object

5. Angelo threw the (towel) angrily: Indirect object

Answer: Thomas Malthus, who studied population growth.

Thomas Malthus was an English scholar. He is particularly well-known because of his studies on population growth. He realized that, when food production in a nation improved, population tended to go up. However, this change did not last long, as population growth restored the original per capita production level. Therefore, instead of using surplus for improving standards of living, humans tend to use it to increase population. These conclusions were carefully studied by Darwin, and they helped him develop his own theories on natural selection.
