To stop cyberbullying, we can start from ourselves. There are steps to do when we find out someone is cyberbullying, which are to notice, talk, document, report, and support.

EXPLANATION

There are things we can do to stop cyberbullying:

1. Notice

We need to take a good look at the people around us. We need to observe if they have a change in behavior or mood. If there is a change of behavior or mood, then we need to analyze the reasoning behind it. Whenever the child is using their phones, do these changes happen? If it does happen, then the child may be experiencing cyberbullying.

2. Talk

After suspecting that the child is cyberbullied, then we have to ask questions about it. Questions like how cyberbullying started, or who are the ones that are involved in the cyberbullying act.

3. Record

We need to keep a record of what is happening. For example, if the child is experiencing cyberbullying from Twitter, so we can take screenshots about the mean and harmful contents from Twitter. It will help if you take the record from time to time because many laws and policies state that something can only be called bullying if it is repeated behavior.

4. Report

Most of the online platforms have clear rules and policies on how to report a cyberbully. You can contact the online platforms directly through email, or even through the website. You can ask for the content to be removed. If cyberbullying happens at school, then you can report it to the school. If the cyberbullying is beyond the usual things that can be accepted, in which it includes crime or illegal behavior, then you can report it to the police.

5. Support

We can give support and love to the person that is bullied. We can express our concern towards them. If we see that the victim needs more professional help, then we can refer them to a counselor, psychologist, or mental health professional.

Amy Tan makes the reader care about her narrative in the mother tongue by

  • Her choice of words in the second paragraph
  • The way she said has three different ways of using the English language
  • How her mother is treated due to her poor grasp of English

In the second paragraph, she described language as something that can evoke an emotion out of someone.

The way she described the three different ways that she uses English language was intriguing. Her English varies during conversations with her mother, When she she is giving a conversation to her  audience, and also when she is writing.

She described her mother's English as broken and limited and how people do not pay much attention to fully understand what she has to say.
