The School of Athens was painted for the library of Pope Julius II. It was started in 1508 and was completed in 1511.
Raphael's School of Athens resembled the age of renaissance, when there are different thinkers of all backgrounds who contributed to the common intelligence of man kind. It is a painting that represents the greatest mathematicians, scientists and philosophers in history, like Plato and Aristotle. The two happens to be in the middle of the painting, which looks like discussing their philosophical views of Idealism and Realism. Ptolemy, Euclid, Pythagoras, and Hipatia are also detailed in the painting.
