For the why you would use it as in why does it do that or why is this important for you to know. For table of contents it’s basically just like a easy why to find everything in the book or short story. Add headings on paragraphs and when you do the photograph put captions under it. Add a diagram to help show percentages of how the subject is helpful. Bold faced words for emphasis or to help show the importance of that specific sentence or word. And labels to label different sections! I’m sorry if that’s not what your asking but just reply to this and I will try to help more if u need it

I’m a little confused by what you mean but here’s my best answer
-table of contents: helps readers know where to look for certain chapters and such. (Organizes book)
-heading: tells reader what a chapter is about
-caption: description of something
-glossary: helps readers know certain vocabulary
-bold faced words: attracts the readers eye
-label: helps to identify something or someone
-photograph: can help a reader better understand a text
-diagram: informative and helps readers know more and understand better

I hope this helps!!
