When the House of Representatives proposes or introduces bills for consideration by Congress, the <u>Speaker</u>, who is the presiding officer of the chamber, is the one responsible for assigning them to house committees. There are many committees, each of them deal with a certain area such as agriculture, education, labor, energy, financial services, foreign affairs, homeland security, and others. So, depending on the issue addressed in the bill, the Speaker will assign it to a specific committee.
