Europeans aided from advances in cartography because it permitted people to explore.

In the period between the 15th to late 17th centuries, improvements in cartography, shipbuilding and directional skills gave growth to what is now named the Age of Exploration. Through this time, the Europeans completed many sea journeys everywhere the world in hunt of new trading ways and chances.
