Shakespeare introduces the idea that "opposites are the same" at the beginning of the play "Macbeth". Right in the first scene of the first act, there are three witches in an enigmatic and interesting dialogue. It is in this dialogue that Shakespeare introduces the idea that "the opposite is the same" when witches report that the weather is bad and good, along the line:
